Continuing Education Massage Therapy
We are firm believers in the value of continuing education and are delighted to support our graduates and the general public with a variety of high quality evening and weekend workshops. FLSM is approved by New York State as well as the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB)as a continuing education provider under Category A. Massage therapists who hold National Certification must obtain 24 continuing education units (CEUs) every two-years to maintain their Board Certification credential. Massage Therapists who are licensed through New York State are required to obtain 36 CEUs every three years to maintain licensure. FLSM frequently offers several CEU-granting workshops which fulfill these requirements.
In January of 2012 New York State began requiring continuing education for all LMTs. We are very excited to offer New York State-approved Continuing Education workshops to our alumni as well as all other New York State Licensed Massage Therapists. If you would like more information about the new law, you may contact us, or read more on the New York State Office of Professions website:
Overview from the Office of Professions:
Effective January 1, 2012, to renew your registration as a massage therapist, New York State Education Law requires completion of 36 hours of acceptable formal continuing education, a maximum of which may be 12 hours of self-instructional coursework, in each three-year renewal period. Practitioners are not required to complete continuing education for the triennial registration period during which they are first licensed. All other registered massage therapists are required to complete 36 hours, the equivalent of 1 hour per month, of acceptable continuing education.
