Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute
Acupuncture Canada has a rich 40-year history, first as a charity then as a not-for-profit organization. It has always been a pre-eminent teaching institution and advocate for the benefits of acupuncture in healthcare.
The Acupuncture Foundation of Canada (AFC) was incorporated as a charity in Ontario on February 1, 1974 by seven medical doctors whose acupuncture training came from different parts of the world. AFC was the parent organization of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (AFCI), which was federally incorporated as a not for profit educational organization in 1995. In 2014, AFCI rebranded as Acupuncture Canada.
Acupuncture Canada enhances the health and healing impact of acupuncture for Canadians through:
- the provision of competency-based continuing education in acupuncture for multi-disciplinary, regulated health professionals;
- collaboration with government, regulators, consumers and insurers for access to, and funding for, acupuncture services;
- promotion of best practices and research in acupuncture;
- public outreach and education regarding the holistic benefits of acupuncture; and
