Physiotherapists are involved in the following preparation for birth classes:
Healthy Pregnancy Session
Early pregnancy education covering back care, posture, pelvic floor exercises, exercise guidelines and relaxation.
This class is a pre-requisite for Balancing Bellies attendance
Pregnancy To Parenting - Active Birth and Beyond
Later pregnancy, preparation for birth education; covering positions and movement, massage, relaxation and post-natal recovery advice.
TENS for Labour
Transcutaneous External Nerve Stimulation(TENS)education and information regarding this method of pain relief.
"Balancing Bellies" during pregnancy, from 25 weeks
Stretch and tone exercise class, using a therapy ball.
"Movers and Shapers" after birth
Low impact return to exercise. Bring your baby with you.
Individual Appointments
Individual outpatient appointments during the pregnancy and 3 months post-natally are available for women birthing at Canberra Hospital.
These appointments are for musculo-skeletal or pelvic floor/continence issues
They're also available for women with special needs. Interpreters are available by prior arrangement.
